Quarterly roundup March 2019 *Spoiler Free*

I'll write a post every 3 months which'll contain the thoughts I had right after watching an anime, movie or tv show. As such it should be taken as mere thoughts that I had directly after watching it. It's NOT a review, more of a final impression if you will.
Anyway It'll contain whatever I watched during those 3 months with little if any regard to release season or current trends.
You can find my complete list of anime I've watched and their ratings on kitsu.io/users/APasz/library. There is no list for western tv/movies unfortunately. If anyone has a good suggestion, let me know.
So without further ado.
English title「Japanese title」*=unofficial.

Castle Season 1-7
Castle is up there with Bones in terms of how much I enjoy it.
There are plenty of twists and turns, some a bit more hard swallow than others but overall believable.
As is almost always the case, the technical side of tech is somewhat played with.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015)
I'd put Kingsman in the top 5 of best of 2015.
Amazing choreography and spot on acting. And I absolutely agree with Samuel L Jackson when he pushed for that lisp. It really put his character up there.
Because it's true when they say a spy movie is only as good as the villain.

PotC: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

I think this is the third, maybe forth time I've watched this but it is the first time I've seen it at Blu-Ray quality. Boy does it make a difference.
Anyway. This probably one of if not the best pirate movie ever made, apart from Treasure Island that is. Which is on the list to watch again at some point.

All the leads did a brilliant job with their roles.
The music was spot on and never pulled you out of the experience.
The FX for the skeleton was quite well done.
Especially the scene with them under the ship. You'll know the one once you see.
I consider this movie to be an accidental masterpiece.

Edit201909: I'd like share a Stephan Krosecz video. https://youtu.be/zhdBNVY55oM

PotC: Dead Man's Chest (2006) + At World's End (2007)
I'm talking about these two together because they 2 parts of the same story.

As with the first one, this is my second time watching these but this time at a much better quality level.
Now let's be frank, these two simply aren't as good as the first one no matter how to slice it.
While the acting and FX were still done quite well (music especially), there were a good handful or two of scenes I didn't see the point of, or thought were a little too drawn out.
The whole Calypso thing just seems weird and I've gotta ask just how did they mess up Davy Jones the way they did.

At the end of the day though, it is still Pirates of the Caribbean.
These are fun movies to watch and I do recommend watching them.

Puss in Boots (2011)
Excellent voice acting, animation, and choreography.
Lot's of fun here with a fair smattering of jokes for the adults watching.
Chronologically it goes between Shrek 1 and 2 but it's not at all important.
I do recommend watching the Puss in Boots: The Three Diablos short if you enjoyed the main movie.

The Incredibles 2 (2018)
I enjoyed this one immensely.
The writing is pretty darn good. What happens with the undergrounder was quite a solid connection between the two movies. Whether that was something that was thought of during production of TI1 or if it was after the fact, A+.
Animation and voice acting is excellent as expected from a Pixar film.

Quarterly roundup September 2020 *Spoiler Free*

"Hey look", "Those people know writing and stuff", "Listen to them"... These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-07-01 to 2020-09-30 2012 (2009) As long as you turn off your brain it's a good fodder movie. The fx really hasn't held up though. 3 Days to Kill (2014) Not great, well not even good. Actually it's below average. Kevin Costner does an alright job but he's just one man, and just one man can't save this film. Sound and Fx are average at best. Avatar (2009) If there is anything going for Avatar, it's that even 11 years later it's still quite visually stunning which isn't to say its vfx are anything to write home about these days. Acting is good I suppose. Sound and music on the other hand, it's done well, like really well. Glory (1989) With Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Andre Braugher, how could it not be a great film? Not really familiar with US Civil War specifics so c...

Quarterly roundup March 2022 *Spoiler Free*

" To build may have to be the slow and laborious task of years. To destroy can be the thoughtless act of a single day. "   These are impressions, not reviews. Look for someone much more qualified for those. Titles completed during this period 2022-01-01 to 2022-03-31   47 Ronin [2013]  I had heard mixed but generally positive things about this film. Always been a fan of Reanu, and Hiroyuki so finally got around to watching and I like it. Don't think it's as great as The Last Samurai but it's up there for me. Could've been a bit longer though, to flesh out the witch a bit more, and possibly some of the other 47 Ronin. IMHO if you are interested by feudal Japan or the legend of the 47 Ronin, then consider this a must-watch.   Ender's Game [2014]  Went into this one with only my brothers recommendation. It's interesting to say the least.   Forrest Gump [1994] Everyone knows this movie so need I say more?   Saving Private Ryan [1998]   Again, ...

Time and Date formats.

I wanted to give my take on the debate about which date and time format is the best. The are 3 main formats for dates and 2 for time. D/M/Y, Y/M/D, M/D/Y, 12 and 24 hour time. There are other formats but these are the main ones. So why do I use Y/M/D 24h in a country that uses D/M/Y 12h? It's simple really but first, lets all agree that M/D/Y makes no dam sense. Anyway, moving on, D/M/Y and Y/M/D Makes sense because it goes from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest and they can be easily swapped between but the biggest reason is due to how a computer counts. The most commonly used counting system is the hexadecimal (edit: sorry, I meant base36, hexadecimal is base 16) system which is from of 0 to Z. So 0, 1... 9, A, B... Z and symbols have their own block but that varies bit as to which character-encoding scheme is used. If you have a set of files that all start with the date and you sort by name. Under the D/M/Y system you get, 01-01-2010 01-02-2010 01-10-2009...
