" To build may have to be the slow and laborious task of years. To destroy can be the thoughtless act of a single day. "   These are impressions, not reviews. Look for someone much more qualified for those. Titles completed during this period 2022-01-01 to 2022-03-31   47 Ronin [2013]  I had heard mixed but generally positive things about this film. Always been a fan of Reanu, and Hiroyuki so finally got around to watching and I like it. Don't think it's as great as The Last Samurai but it's up there for me. Could've been a bit longer though, to flesh out the witch a bit more, and possibly some of the other 47 Ronin. IMHO if you are interested by feudal Japan or the legend of the 47 Ronin, then consider this a must-watch.   Ender's Game [2014]  Went into this one with only my brothers recommendation. It's interesting to say the least.   Forrest Gump [1994] Everyone knows this movie so need I say more?   Saving Private Ryan [1998]   Again, ...

"" These are impressions, not reviews. Look for someone much more qualified for those. Titles completed during this period 2021-10-01 to 2021-12-31 I am Legend [2007] It was fine. Bit slow at point but I like Will Smith cause he's able to make even slow scenes interesting. The CGI is okay by today's standards, nothing to write home about. I saw the Devil [2010]「악마를 보았다」 Now that was a movie and a half. Thoroughly engaging. And the gore is not something it shies away from. Be prepped. Inglourious Basterds [2009] Doesn't really take itself seriously. Had fun with it though. Men in Black: International [2019] As a standalone film is okay but as an MiB movie it's only serviceable. The CGI and sound is good, not great but not on the same level as the 2016 Ghostbusters remake. Train to Busan [2016] So this is the second time I've watched this film and oh boy, it's still just as engaging as it was the first go around. Especially the end there, really tugging ...

"" These are impressions, not reviews. Look for someone much more qualified for those. Titles completed during this period 2021-07-01 to 2021-09-30 Dante's Peak [1997] Haven't seen this movie since I was just a child. While it isn't exactly groundbreaking, it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. So I'd recommend it to anyone who finds the premise or setting at all interesting. Mulan [1998] Pretty sure I saw this a kid but I didn't really remember anything as I watched it. So it was like seeing it for the first time. And I liked it. The animation is slick and full of character. Stargate: Universe Fine I suppose. Interesting premise for sure. The writing sometimes felt, too convenient. There are several times where a lose end gets tied up with an even bigger lose end. Was nice seeing some of the original SG-1 team though, as brief as it was. Basically, if you've been watching all of Stargate in order like I have, ya may as well but it's n...

"Putting the shopping trolley away is an excellent demonstration of character." These are impressions, not reviews. Look for someone much more qualified for those. Apart from LotR, I didn't watch a single thing until May. So pushed LotR forward. Titles completed during this period 2021-01-01 to 2021-06-30 Gemini Man [2019] So, 60fps. Looks good. Wish more films would do it. The premise is quite interesting but the execution is just fine. Sound is good. VFX is a little overdone in a few scenes but all in all is fine, even good at times. Greyhound [2020] Being the warship fan that I am, this movie is right up my ally. Its depiction of navel warfare is fairly realistic. So much so that I'd say it's the most realistic representation I've seen in quite a while. Sound and VFX are excellent. House M.D Season 6 Finally got around to watching more of it. Probably the best season so far. Hugh Laurie is definitively one of my most liked actors. The Karate Kid 1-4 [1984-1...

"" These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-10-01 to 2020-12-31 American Sniper (2014) An excellent film depicting the story of CPO Chris Kyle, though some liberties were taken, some much larger than others. Basically it's one of those mostly based on mostly true events type film. VFX are generally good, there are a few moments of 2008 level CGI though. Sound is the standout feature. And so is Bradley Cooper's acting. Arpeggio of Blue Steel  -Ars Nova- 「蒼き鋼のアルペジオ  ‐アルス・ノヴァ‐ 」 Battleships, Cruisers, Frigates, submarines, cute girls, what's not to love? Well if those things don't float your boat I suppose but come on. Huge guns firing, massive missile volleys, and even a bit of strategy thrown in for good measure. Anyway, it's got i nteresting visuals but sound is lacking sometimes. Animation is mostly good, I give a pass to some of the small mistakes though, as this is one of the earlier 3D anime. Deep Water Horizon (2016...

"Hey look", "Those people know writing and stuff", "Listen to them"... These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-07-01 to 2020-09-30 2012 (2009) As long as you turn off your brain it's a good fodder movie. The fx really hasn't held up though. 3 Days to Kill (2014) Not great, well not even good. Actually it's below average. Kevin Costner does an alright job but he's just one man, and just one man can't save this film. Sound and Fx are average at best. Avatar (2009) If there is anything going for Avatar, it's that even 11 years later it's still quite visually stunning which isn't to say its vfx are anything to write home about these days. Acting is good I suppose. Sound and music on the other hand, it's done well, like really well. Glory (1989) With Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Andre Braugher, how could it not be a great film? Not really familiar with US Civil War specifics so c...

"Eye for an eye and the world goes blind" These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-04-01 to 2020-06-30 A Touch of Frost Season 1-15 Remember watching this as a kid back when it was airing on ABC. The stories are quite detailed with a number of twists. All things one would look for in a well crafted detective series. David Jason did a really fine job of portraying DI Frost. I, Robot (2004) If I had to pick a favourite movie, it'd probably be this one. The CGI still holds up very well... for the most part. Like 98% is good. Acting is decent, Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan and, Alan Tudyk did wonderfully. Sound lacks in some area but not in a way that really detracts from th e movie overall. There is a little bit of plot contrivance that'll definitely annoy some people. Jurassic Park (1993) Now here's a classic. One of the things that separates JP from all the rest, is the excellent camera work. The use of a more squar...
