Quarterly roundup September 2020 *Spoiler Free*

"Hey look", "Those people know writing and stuff", "Listen to them"... These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-07-01 to 2020-09-30 2012 (2009) As long as you turn off your brain it's a good fodder movie. The fx really hasn't held up though. 3 Days to Kill (2014) Not great, well not even good. Actually it's below average. Kevin Costner does an alright job but he's just one man, and just one man can't save this film. Sound and Fx are average at best. Avatar (2009) If there is anything going for Avatar, it's that even 11 years later it's still quite visually stunning which isn't to say its vfx are anything to write home about these days. Acting is good I suppose. Sound and music on the other hand, it's done well, like really well. Glory (1989) With Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, and Andre Braugher, how could it not be a great film? Not really familiar with US Civil War specifics so c...

"Eye for an eye and the world goes blind" These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-04-01 to 2020-06-30 A Touch of Frost Season 1-15 Remember watching this as a kid back when it was airing on ABC. The stories are quite detailed with a number of twists. All things one would look for in a well crafted detective series. David Jason did a really fine job of portraying DI Frost. I, Robot (2004) If I had to pick a favourite movie, it'd probably be this one. The CGI still holds up very well... for the most part. Like 98% is good. Acting is decent, Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan and, Alan Tudyk did wonderfully. Sound lacks in some area but not in a way that really detracts from th e movie overall. There is a little bit of plot contrivance that'll definitely annoy some people. Jurassic Park (1993) Now here's a classic. One of the things that separates JP from all the rest, is the excellent camera work. The use of a more squar...

"Even in madness, there is always logic." These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2020-01-01 to 2020-03-31 A Bugs Life (1998) There are fun moments and is an overall enjoyable movie. Writing could have used a little more work to make certain things seems a little less childish. Animation is decent for late 90's. Angel Has Fallen (2019) Enjoyed the first two movies and really enjoyed this one. Can't decide which is the best though. Would have to watch them again. Babylon 5 Season 1-5 Always enjoy hard sci-fi, so had to watch this one point or another. Really liked the first season. Felt the second season was a little off. 3rd and 4th season were quite enjoyable though. The CGI is a little dated at this point though some of it is actually quite good, especially later in the show. Such as the 3d models of the station and various ships. Sound is ok but not great. I definitely recommend this show to anyone who enjoys...

"Yeah, not a writer. I know nothing of writing." These are impressions, not reviews. Titles completed during this period 2019-10-01 to 2019-12-31 007, James Bond. Sean Connery era Dr. No (1962) - From Russia with Love (1963) - Goldfinger (1964) - Thunderball (1965) - You Only Live Twice (1967) - Diamonds are Forever (1971) Back in 2012 I got the 50th anniversary edition. I watched all of them back to back, back then. Now I'm doing it again. The audio and visual effects are of course quite dated at this point. And to be quite frank I have little idea if they're any good for their time. Generally not familiar enough with cinema tech circa 1980. However since they still get quite good ratings, It's safe bet at least some things were done right. And I did enjoy myself watching them again. Those gun and punch sounds though, oof, those have not held up at all. Blue is the Warmest Color [La Vie d'Adèle] (2013) Okay, so the film is French. It...

I'll write a post every 3 months which'll contain the thoughts I had right after watching an anime, movie or tv show. As such it should be taken as mere thoughts that I had directly after watching it. It's NOT a review, more of a final impression if you will. Anyway It'll contain whatever I watched during those 3 months with little if any regard to release season or current trends. You can find my complete list of anime I've watched and their ratings on kitsu.io/users/APasz/library. There is no list for western tv/movies unfortunately. If anyone has a good suggestion, let me know. So without further ado. English title「Japanese title」*=unofficial. Titles completed during this period 2019-07-01 to 2019-09-30 Battleship (2012) I'll admit that I'm quite the pushover for navel warfare movies so even though it's not that great, I still enjoy this movie. Writing is probably the worst thing here but it's got ACDC so bias point +1. Acting is alrig...

Titles completed during this period 2019-04-01 to 2019-06-30 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) This is a great remake of the original 1971 adaptation and is most certainly a movie everyone should see at some point in their life. The music, writing, animation and style are all spot on (or at least near enoug...

PC vs Console... June 2019

It's been 3 years and 3 months. Think it's about time I did another one. I would like to preface this by saying that I don't own and never have owned a console but my field of expertise is computing. I've been building PC's for people and myself for as long as I can remember. Now I'm not going to go over everything that I did last time since a lot of what I said is still true just slightly different names. As such this will be more of a refresher. PC vs Console, what's the difference? In my opinion these 4 points are the most important differences in no particular order. 1. Customisability, upgradability and, personalisability. - It really can't get anymore clear cut then this. Sure you can paint your console, change the wallpaper and whatnot but [outside of breaking your warranty] you can't change anything meaning about the software/hardware. 2. Perceived and actual cost in both the short and long term. - Thinking ahead and taking assoc...
